Ponyville Diaries - Locations
As dead as Diaries might seem to be, I still am doing a lot of things with the world internally. One of these things is developing an idea of what the alternate Equestrian towns and cities look like.
So yeah. Time for a long post!
Pegasopolis
Pegasopolis isn’t a cloud city anymore and thus has a fixed location right on Emerald Lake. As Equestria’s capital, it is the largest and most populated district in the country and prides itself on being very well integrated, contrary to its pegasus-dominated history. The Aurum and Trotter Rivers were formed by earth pony land-movers to connect it to the surrounding oceans and make it a central trading post. Its financial district and high class suburbs are modeled after Hong Kong and its surrounding mountains and islands.

Rather than use roads, the historic areas and middle-class suburbs use waterways and canals as modes for transportation. These are modeled after Amsterdam.

The lower class suburbs are the sprawling districts far from the city center. As Diaries Equestria guarantees everyone as house regardless of situation, the houses are all bunched together and built with the same specs, in true suburban fashion.

Manehattan and Meadowlands
Manehattan is a trading and orchard city sitting on a peninsula facing the Serenic Ocean. Earth pony by nature, it is built to have a sort of classical feel with low buildings, aged architecture, open park spaces for the apples, and wide boulevards for the heavy hoof traffic. It is modeled after Paris.

Meadowlands is the surrounding suburbs and orchard grounds that is analogous to New Jersey and named after the wetland region in said state. Unlike the namesake, Meadowlands is more of a forested valley with rolling hills and apples galore.

Canterlot and the Village Line
If you thought Manehattan was a drastic distancing from New York City, just wait til you see Canterlot. Built in the Southern Mounts, the city is the center of unicorn culture and is celebrated as a rather diverse and engaging city with tons of markets, foods, and arts as far as the eye can see. It’s not exactly a looker, though, what with the poverty and heavy slum sprawl. It is modeled after Quito in Ecuador.

You can kinda imagine the Canterlot Castle being hung over that mountain in the background if this were the capital.
Village Line is a region of little towns leading up to Baltimare that is essentially a massive valley and countryside where agriculture runs wild. This where Ponyville is located.

Los Cielos and the Arcade
Pegasi love the cold. How else could they live in cloud cities? Though cloud cities are no longer legal, pegasi still embrace the chill by populating themselves in the Northern Mounts and in the Arcadian Tundras. Los Cielos the northernmost city in the country and is really more of a monument to pegasus stubbornness to abide to integration. But like most northern towns, it looks very darn pretty with them snow-capped mountains and frigid harbors. It is modeled after Anchorage in Alaska.

The Arcade is the general name of the Northern regions of the planet, much like our Arctic. In Equestria mostly mountainous tundra that looks really cool, but also quite empty aside from the occasional stronghold.

Miscellaneous
Appleloosa and the Caballos region are deserts with some orchard oases being dotted around.

Baltimare is much smaller in relation to Baltimore and has more hills and mountains in the surrounding area. Knoxville, TN comes to mind.

Esperia is a major city connecting Pegasopolis to Canterlot and very highway-oriented while also looking like someone just built a city there for the heck of it.

Nonentra is a quarantined region that is home to a bunch of scary stuff and monsters and also the amazing gates to Tartarus. Hell on earth indeed, but only if you think Hell looks like Yellowstone National Park.

Messina is an earth pony/unicorn majority nation that was founded by refugees of the Pegasopolis Major takeover. Take Canterlot and expand it to country size, and that’s what you get. The rural agricultural lands and coasts are modelled after Mediterranean countryside.

Its capital city, Polotietalit (po-lo-TEE-tah-lit) is less pretty, due to its infamous eternal smog that hangs around the mountains and skyline. AKA, Mexico City.

Fuck, that was long. Anyways, thanks for reading!
