I dunno I’m probably gonna rewatch it.

Meh.

First thing. Baby plots are boring. They’re literally the same thing every time. There’s a new kid and he/she fucks shit up and makes life hard for the protagonists. But it works out in the end! 8D

Meh.

Obviously Flurry’s gonna be barely important or  mentioned in the rest of the season (unlike a certain other show I used to like *coughFOPcough*. But still. That plot was ergh.

Second thing. It’s not like I ultimately prefer Starlight the villain, but I kinda do miss her. She’s still my absolute favorite antagonist in the series just based on the S5 premiere. Holyyy shit.

Now she’s just another friendship horse. It’s too early to say if this is a bad thing. But I really do hope that some of her old mannerisms back. Like the scene with Starlight convincing Spike to blab about his achievements. #MakeStarlightInsaneAgain

On the other hand, the third thing. The subplot was great! I liked it! Mainly because it didn’t put Spike in a negative light like the writers always do, and because of how it weaved into the main story without compromising pacing. Plus, Sunburst is a cute. If that was it’s own episode, I would’ve loved it. Definitely a redeeming quality.

Really, the writing and pacing was pretty okay. Definitely a step up from other jam-packed episodes that throw too much at you. At the same time, not exactly premiere material? It was awfully tame? And a little ridiculous?

But at least it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. Hopefully the finale is better.

So yeah. 6.5/10. Maybe it’ll go up when I rewatch.
