If a reddit thread has somehow convinced you Pinkie Pie was in character, then I strongly suggest you check out this: http://tommyoliverblogs.tumblr.com/post/76861082312/insane-characters

Damn it, I couldn’t resist loosely replying to this…

The whole point of Pinkie is that she’s the embodiment of laughter. She’s a happy pony who wants everyone else to be happy with her.

But her flaw is that she’s TOO happy compared to everyone else. What makes her feel better doesn’t make everyone else feel better or laugh.

She comes off as annoying if she’s trying to light a mood that doesn’t need any lighting. And she keeps talking and talking because she loves activity, but often doesn’t see that whomever she’s talking to is uninterested, sad, or annoyed. Worse so when it comes to her polar personality opposite Fluttershy.

They overdid it a bit in Filli Vanilli, but other than that she’s been perfectly fine. Totally expected of her to go off about being on stage.

She’s not an idiot. Nothing about her suggests that she is one. She has caring friends, a stable job, and a fully functioning mind capable of solving problems and being responsible.

In “Griffon the Brush Off,” Pinkie mentions that pranking Fluttershy is not a good thing to do because she’s so sensitive. This is different because a prank is something DELIBERATE. If you start mindlessly rambling to someone and you say something that hits a nerve (and you know that said nerve exists in this person), is it your fault?

Pinkie has the same effect. She keeps talking, not realizing that what she’s saying is hurtful or wrong. But in her head, it’s perfectly fine! Like I said, they overdid it, but the effect is still the base and is perfectly realistic behavior!

And audience wise, because we keep seeing her as annoying, she’s gonna look even MORE annoying as the episodes keep going. Even if her core personality hasn’t changed one bit.
